This is my Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome blog. Its just a general collection of links that I've come across which address many different aspects of HLHS and other forms of congenital heart disease. I initially decided to start this blog so that I'd have access to these links, some of them being very hard to find, from any computer. Also so that I could share the links with other parents and caregivers who might be interested.
I blogged this primarily because the article presents some statistics on the positive impact of breastfeeding the heart baby, which is contrary to what most moms are told in the hospital regarding bottle vs. breast.

Our little guy struggled (taking only 10ml at most at each feed)with breast-feeding until we got him home after his stage two surgery. My wife persevered and it really payed off. There have be a number of occasions where he has 'gastro bugs' when breast milk was all he could tolerate. We are sure he would have ended up on a iv drip to maintain his fluids had it not been for the nursing. By the way, Joseph is three and half and is still has feeds at night, although he is promising to give them up when he turns 4!
